Title: Perceived hearing impairment, quality of life, and depressive symptoms of community elderly in Hong Kong
Abstract: 
Aim The purpose of study is to find out how hearing handicap affect the quality of life and depression among community elderly in Hong Kong. 
Method It is a cross-sectional study. We aim to recruit 400 eligible elderly aged 65 or above to participate in this study. Recruitment will be done in community centers. The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (HK-MoCA) Hong Kong version will be used to screen out elderly with moderate or severe dementia and ensure they have enough cognitive function in answering the related questions. Hearing Handicap Inventory for Elderly (HHIE-S) is adopted to assess hearing impairment in the elderly. WHOQOL-BREF to assess quality of life and short form Geriatric Depression Scale Short Form (GDS-15) to screen for the presence of depressive symptoms. 

Result It is predicted that there are significant negative impacts on quality of life and more prevalent to have depressive symptoms among elderly who have self-perceived hearing handicap. The results will imply to future planning of community hearing test screening for eligible elderly for early detection and prevent deteriorating. 
Biography: 
Dr. Bronya Hi Kwan LUK, RN, MN, DHSc, graduated from Sydney University. She received her Doctoral degree in Health Science at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She has clinical experience in critical care nursing in Hong Kong and Australia. She entered the nursing education in 2004. Her research interests and publications are in family health and geriatric care. She is currently work in School of Nursing, Tung Wah College as an Assistant Professor.
